Jacques Tynes     |      Lawyer

Jacques Tynes is a dedicated and insightful legal professional specializing in civil litigation, with a deep commitment to advocating for underrepresented communities. A graduate of the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, Jacques brings a wealth of knowledge, sharp analytical skills, and a community-focused approach to her practice at Minors Law. She is a member in good standing with the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.

Education and Honors

  • Masters of Law (LLM): Currently pursuing with a thesis focused on advocacy for marginalized populations.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.): Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, 2019.

  • Bachelor of Arts: Major in Criminology and a minor in Sociology, Saint Mary’s University, 2016.

  • Jacques was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in June 2020.

  • She finished top 10 in Canada in the Gale Cup Mooting Competition, demonstrating her strong legal advocacy and litigation skills.

  • She has been recognized for her unwavering commitment and dedication with several awards, including the Judge Corrine Sparks Award and the Dawn Russel Community Commitment Award.

Legal Experience: Jacques began her legal career articling at both Weldon McInnis Barristers & Solicitors and Nova Scotia Legal Aid. During these formative years, she honed her skills in legal research, document drafting, and client representation. She managed the full case lifecycle and developed strategic solutions that consistently aligned with her clients' needs.

Philosophy: At Minors Law, Jacques applies a people-focused approach to law, ensuring that every client—whether individual or corporate—receives personalized and dedicated service. Her belief that "we are all people at the end of the day" shapes her practice, extending her individualized approach to businesses and corporations alike. This philosophy underpins her primary practice area of civil litigation and is supported by her passion for justice and equality, making her a loyal advocate for her clients' rights. Jacques represents clients across Canada, demonstrating her ability to navigate diverse legal landscapes and address the unique challenges presented by different jurisdictions.

Personal Interests: Outside the courtroom, Jacques is deeply engaged in music and sports. A performer for most of her career, she cherishes the joy and expression found in music. An avid basketball player, she has been actively involved in the sport throughout her years. Family is central in her life, compelling her to not only nurture her own family but also actively contribute to her broader community. Jacques’s approach is not just about providing legal services but about creating meaningful change and empowering the voices of those she represents, regardless of their size or status.
